#AmazonFWT

Hong Kongers love Japan for its beautiful tourist spots, excellent food, rich culture and impeccable service and many residents have lent their spending power to the country holidaying there. This time, we are taking our creative power to Japan, as the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has joined hands with several local designers during Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO this October to present Fashion Hong Kong (FHK).

Held for the third time on the schedule of Amazon fashion week TOKYO, FHK’s show was presented at the largest show venue at Shibuya Hikarie where designers and brands HARRISON WONG (Harrison Wong), HEAVEN PLEASE+ (Yi Chan and Lary Cheung), LOOM LOOP (Polly Ho), and MEIKING NG (Meiking Ng) presented their SS18 collections to many expecting global buyers, business partners, and media. The after-party was equally filled with excitement as designers received compliments and promising orders and collaborations.

HARRISON WONG
HARRISON WONG’s latest collection Art Brut took inspiration from the mid-19th-century French artist Jean Debuffet’s works, creating striking visuals with contemporary graffiti patterns. With his well-established brand DNA, the asymmetric lines and strong shoulder silhouette gave rise to unique appearance and wearability.

HEAVEN PLEASE+
The new collection of HEAVEN PLEASE+ is titled The Science of Dream, which is inspired by the works of film director Michel Gondry, evoking memories from 90s sub-culture, and the brand’s dreamy and extraordinary concept. Two designers Yi Chan and Lary Cheung love to apply their experiences in arts, music, and literature into their fashion design concept.

LOOM LOOP
LOOM LOOP features Jingzhe, the third of the 24 solar terms in the traditional East Asian calendars, in its latest collection. LOOM LOOP is a relatively young label. She loves using Canton silk and strongly emphasizes culture and eco values in her work. This collection is infused with traditional Hong Kong folk stories and has a local cultural essence.

MEIKING NG
Noble Angler of MEIKING NG presents elegance with modern femininity. The collection showcases the unique beauty of strong female in a metropolis. MEIKING NG is well known for her reversible double-faced and multi-wearable structure design.

Fashion Hong Kong has kept up to date with advanced technology by live streaming the fashion show online. Runway collections by the four participating designer labels will not only be available in the pop-up stores but also at Goxip, a Hong Kong online fashion shopping start-up, as part of the “See Now, Buy Now” trend. What’s more, Fashion Hong Kong has partnered with local fashion tech start-up, Casetify, to present a Fashion Hong Kong x Casetify phone case collection. The four labels’ designs will be available in print on Casetify phone cases, showcasing diversified styles that share the same impressive elements as Hong Kong designs.

The viral event mentioned at AmazonFWT is one of the show highlights of Hong Kong Fashion Month, a wide array of city-wide promotional events to bring Hong Kong’s fashion designers and their collections to Japan and the world. Fashion Hong Kong Month is powered by the HKTDC to promote Hong Kong fashion designer labels at Tokyo. This inaugural large-scale fashion event is just like a Matsuri, a Japanese festive celebration that involves everyone. Fashion Hong Kong Month is held from 1 October to 2 November at Tokyo’s fashion hotspots in Minami Aoyama, Shibuya and Shinjuku, where the latest collections of Hong Kong fashion and accessories designers are showcased.
