At the final of Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest took place on last Saturday, four past YDC designers who have established their own brands showcased their latest Capsule Collections. The four designers are MODEMENT by Aries Sin, Kevin Ho, Kurt Ho and DEMO. by Derek Chan. The Hong Kong & Kowloon Textile Fabrics Wholesalers Association sponsored all the fabrics used in the collections, giving the four designers a valuable opportunity to try new fabrics and come up with innovative designs to excite the audience.
“There are no absolutes in this world”, says designer Derek Chan about his latest collect under label DEMO. “Androgyny is the theme”. I believe even a manly man can still feel a feminine touch in their heart and soul. It’s a notion that’s proven on a biological level. Men need feminine hormones to be balanced.
MODEMENT
Who doesn’t like surprises? It’s all about the big reveal with MODEMENT’s latest collection called ‘Inside Out’, starting with her multi-tiered, multi-layered, multi-coloured two-piece outfit consisting of a sleeveless, open back top and a fluffed up skirt. Designer Aries Sin always has a way of blending masculinity and femininity in a provocative way.
KEVIN HO
Lingerie is probably one of the fastest growing products in China right. Folks are finally starting to feel sexy and wearing intimates for those well…intimate situations. For this year’s YDC ex-finalist showcase, Kevin Ho has decided to diverge from his geometric, electric style to take a walk on the sensual side of fashion.
KURT HO
It’s all about the process with Ho’s latest collection. He is literally taking the procedural steps needed to construct a garment and creating an outfit. “No one ever gets to see the steps that goes into creating something, so I’m going to take different elements from the design process and put it into one outfit” says Kurt.
