Despite the short supply of novice in many local industries, Hong Kong fashion industry is proving the bright future with extraordinary work of fashion students. The Hong Kong Trade Development joined hands with several local fashion institutes in early July, showcasing the work of post 90s fashion students during the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring Summer.

The THEi Fashion Show was held by The Technological and Higher Education Institute (THEi) on 5 July, where twelve graduating students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design showcased their works, competing for four prizes sponsored by the industry. A number of notable designers and professionals within the field of fashion were invited to be the judging panel.

Choi Yui Sheng’s evening-wear collection for ladies, encapsulating black tone with unique cutting and intricate use of materials, won him the Overall Winner and the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association Creativity Award. The first runner-up Chan Tsz Ying presented her wave-themed thick woollen sweater collection. The collection is hand-woven from woollen threads of varied thickness and shades of indigo, creating an eye-catching yet sophisticated effect.

What’s more, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)'s Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) staged its annual Master of Arts Graduation Fashion Show on 6 July at the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer. The show showcased the creative works of nine selected ITC graduating students, each of them presented a collection of eight original outfits designed under their chosen themes which demonstrated their innovation and sophisticated detailing.

Together with the PolyU ITC Intimate Fashion Show, and a showcase of Fashion Design and Business students from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the four extraordinary showcases marked the sustainable talent supply and continuous development of local fashion industry.
