HOMEFEATURES ▸ Style Guide for Autumn/Winter Outings
2016.11.18

It’s hiking season, but that doesn't mean you have to dress like you’re climbing up Mount Everest. It honestly doesn’t get cold enough in Hong Kong to dress like you’re a Sherpa and there are plenty of trails where you can wear sporty, but not athletic clothes. If you really want to look chic and Instagrammable when you’re standing on Sunset Peak, check out our style guide, which features some our favourite Hong Kong brands that incorporates athleisure into daily wear.

Three-quarter length wide pants
There is a charming and easy appeal to three-quarter length pants. Revealing a little bit of ankle is a subtle and tasteful way of showing skin and it allows for more comfortable movement. Combine that with the trend for wider pants and you have an update on 70s high-waist flairs.

House of V offers an androgynous, utilitarian pair of wide wool pants for their latest collection. It’s easy to wear and highly functional whereas Injury and Methodology offer an edgier silhouette and higher waist fit in monochromatic colours. Match the pants with a short dress, jumper, turtleneck or vest for an understated and classy aesthetic.

Tights

Tights, compression tights and jeggings are all top trends for AW. As the temperature begins to cool and you want to engage in more outdoor activities, tights allow for movement and durability for long city walks and hikes.

Loom Loop and 112 mountainyam both offer of colourful, psychedelic graphic print leggings that are ultra street chic and a fashionable alternative to activewear brands. Pair the leggings with a pair or shorts or skirt depending on how masculine and feminine you want to look. But, if you don't want to deal with layering, you can just wear a matching longer length jumper that covers the crouch area. Put on a pair of high tops and you're good to go.

Sunglasses

Autumn/winter sunlight can be even more intense than summer with the earth tilting at a different axis, which causes sunlight to come at a lower angle, hitting the eyes with a glaring intensity. So, it’s important to still have a pair of stylish sunglasses and our recommendation is to go with a pair of Kenax Leung’s. Though Leung is an accomplished clothing designer, he also knows a thing or two about funky and fun sunglasses that’ll really make your face and outfit pop.

Visors

For extra sun protection wear an architectural and structured visor from sustainable designer Glori Tsui of Methodology. All of her items are made from some upcycled materials. Visors are absolutely in this season and not only do they make you ready for a game of tennis, they also add more dimension to your face.

Backpacks

You really can't plan an outdoor trip without carrying a backpack for all of your essentials for an outdoor excursion like water bottles, snacks and copious packets of Tempo. 112 mountainyam has released a super chic, textured backpack in red and black with panel detailing. It's ergonomic, offers storage and just screams fashion-ward. Wear it with graphic clothes from Yam's collection for the total look. Going outdoors during winter doesn't have to be black and drab. Add a bit of colour to boost your mood.
