Iconic design is part of the MINI DNA, and this is why it has always possessed a strong connection to the fashion world. By collaborating with up-and-coming design talents, MINI expresses its creativity. MINI FASHION is a theme where automobile crossovers with fashion, as MINI believes in those who aren’t afraid to stand out. MINI FASHION celebrates heart over head, relations over ego, and bold ideas over performance. As a trendsetter and fashion icon in the automobile sector, MINI successfully collaborated with local fashion label SKETCHΔROUND earlier this year and has now joined hands with YDC and three of Hong Kong’s hottest fashion brands DEMO., MODEMENT and HANG to produce a range of unique products. Inspired by the MINI Clubman, MINI Countryman and MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) Convertible, the creative talents put together a short film featuring their their latest collections and the three car models that will be shown at YDC 2017 this September.

MINI Clubman’s design concept is inspired by the English gentleman. “MINI is a brand filled with personality and statement features. Every model has its unique characteristics that reflect the personality of corresponding car owners. MINI Clubman and DEMO. share a contemporary classic essence — they are created for gentlemen who are sophisticated, refined and knowledgeable,” says Derek Chan, designer of menswear label DEMO.. Chan also designed a pocket square exclusively for the VIPs of YDC. “The idea comes to my mind when I imagine a man who owns a MINI Clubman, a gentleman who takes care of his style and appearance. I merged the two major colours of MINI Clubman, burgundy and silver, into the pocket square,” he explains.
Collaborating with MODEMENT, the MINI Countryman is a sports utility vehicle designed to appeal to car owners keen to make weekend trips out of the city. Aries Sin, designer of MODEMENT sees MINI Countryman as a vehicle with unisex features, which are close to MODEMENT’s values. “My A/W 2017 collection offers versatility for people who travel from city to suburb, and this is what MINI Countryman’s diversified line-up is offering, too. Picking up on its outdoorsy, adventurous theme, I’ve taken a water bottle and wrapped it with a triangular pouch made from two quilted fabrics from MODEMENT’s A/W 2017 collection. The bottle can stand firmly in the bottle holder of the vehicle, and a treasure map is hidden inside, referencing the treasures that can be found outdoors by MINI Countryman’s owners.”
Due to be launched late September, the MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) Convertible is painted in its exclusive Rebel Green, a mixture of British Racing Green and a fashionable dark green, which echoes the military green in HANG’s 2017 F/W collection, which created a clutch to mark the arrival of this cool convertible. “The MINI JCW Convertible is equipped with a fine-tuned engine and solid suspension to enhance its speed and acuity. I made the clutch in the shape of HANG’s logo – the asymmetric angle reflects the strength and speed of the MINI JCW,” says Mim Mak, designer of womenswear label HANG. The clutch is cut from parka fabric and mesh, while a detachable nylon strap that instantly transfers it into a cross body bag.
